The American Legion does not finance Team Johnson Motorsports' race team or the Freedom Car. American Legion Racing is supported by individual members and posts of the American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary through donations, fund raisers and the purchase of racing merchandise. The racing team is also supported by Associate Sponsors.

The Freedom Car's driver, Jerick Johnson is a member of the Sons of the American Legion.
The Owner of Team Johnson Motorsports, Jack Johnson is a Legionnaire and his wife is an auxiliary member.
